Tired of all the dog treat recalls? Time to start making homemade dog treats! Don’t worry, these are SUPER easy and there is just one ingredient – Sweet Potatoes (or yams). But, you will want to plan on being home for a few hours.
No need for a food dehydrator, you can make these dog treats right in your oven!
Dogs love sweet potatoes and they are an extra healthy snack packed with vitamins and minerals. I’ve bought sweet potato dog treats before so I know my dogs like to eat them but I had some extra sweet potatoes in the fridge and I decided it was time to try making sweet potato dog treats at home.
- Wash sweet potatoes and cut into 1/3 inch slices. Short and round pieces like chips or long pieces like jerky, I made both sizes to see how they would turn out.
- Let them dry out on a cutting board for about 15 minutes.
- Arrange on a baking sheet, they can be pretty close together because they will shrink up quite a bit. Bake at 250 degrees for 90 minutes.
- Flip and cook another 90 minutes on other side, let cool completely before storing or feeding to dogs.
They end up looking like dried mushrooms. The small round chips were crunchy and the long thin pieces were more like jerky, a great combination I think!
Store in fridge up to 3 weeks or freezer up to 4 months.
